Dust boots deteriorated from age and cracked on all pivot joints.
Tie rod was removed from steering knuckle and inspected. Surprisingly, pivot joints were tight and holding the weight of the tie rod (no sagging).
I am considering replacing just the dust boots. Has anyone done this with success? Did the pivot joints last with non-oem dust boot?
Yes you can do it, but its labor intensive, and if any dirt or road salt has gotten in, it will cause the joint to eventually fail. It is agreed by most that the best thing to do is replace the affected axles.
