when they stamp the pan it draws the sump portion of the pan pretty thin, not a lot of material left there. If I lived in the rust belt I would have one of the diapers on mine, the way that thing is sealed to the pan there is not much of a chance of anything getting in there and rusting it,

If you have an early 99, the engine comes out pretty easy. Late 99-03 are a little more work, you either have to unbolt cab and jack it up a few inches or remove the baby's butt before the engine will clear. Another tip is to let the sealer cure before you try to install engine, moving block around can cause more oil to run down to the sealing surface.

Does the front portion of the pan rust out as well?
Then the diaper won't work in that application.
Or is it mostly the deep side.

only the deep side, the front portion is a LOT thicker.
