Has anyone ever seen a kit to make a Early 80's F250 have a removable cap (cab roof, and back wall) Im putting a truck together and just figured I'd ask. If no one can help ill just have to do it myself. And that could be really, really bad.
only convertible truck i know of is the old dodge dakotas. what are we talking about here? single cab, ext. cab, crew cab, cloth top, retractible hardtop? i'm curious. sounds like it would be an interesting project.
No kit available That i know of, but I know in our area there are several custom builders that may be able to steer you in the right direction. Like the previous post I would like to see pictures when done sounds like a really neat project.
I think it's a great idea like everyone here. Just remember to brace the body with steel tubing and weld it to the body and floorboard before cutting the top so the body doesn't collapse and will give you mounting points if you make a convertible top to put on it.check out some of the old school customizers like Gene Winfield or Barris among a few. Also Ron Covell has video tapes out on how to work metal.
Bracing isn't as neccessary on a truck as it has a separate frame to keep it from flexing without the roof. Most cars don't really have a solid frame, just a front and rear sub-frame.
By the way, did anyone notice when this thread was started(3 years ago) and how many posts this guy has. I doubt he even comes here anymore.
