Long time lurker, first time poster. My buddy has a 2002 F350 with 175k. His hpop has been leaking from the plug on the bottom and has been slow to crank. We figured the slow cranking was from the hpop being low on oil from the leak. So he ordered a plug kit from guzzle (i think thats his name) and took it to a friends shop to get it fixed. Well they replaced the plug and put it back to together and it won't start. It's not filliing the hpop with oil and is putting diesel in the oil. This truck run perfect this morning. What do ya'll think?
Glad to see you posting instead of lurking now. Welcome to FTE finally.
If you're referring to the non-serviceable plug, did you also print out the instructions from Guzzle and bring those to your friend? There's a little ball inside that hole that tends to fall out if you don't always keep the pump upside down while working on it. If you don't know it's supposed to be in there, it's easy to not see it come out and therefore not put it back in. No ball under that plug and the truck won't start.
Mixing diesel fuel and oil sounds more like injector o-rings than any HPOP issue. Is it harder to start when warm than it is to start when cold?
yes that is the plug i'm talkin about. Instructions would have been a good idea. I guess if the ball is gone its time for a new pump? Also the diesel in the oil has never been a problem until the no-start today. It added about 2 quarts in an afternoon of trying to get it running
If they dove into the pump blindly, the check ball will do one of two things .... well 3 things are possible.
1. It will come out when the plug is removed. Hit the concrete shop floor and take off like a golf ball thrown out into a busy 4 lane interstate.
2. Move into the IPR side of the pump and lodge itself into the end of the IPR. It just happens to be the exact same size as the ball and as soon as you begin to pump oil, it wedges itself into the IPR to the point that you will never dig it out. If you find it in the IPR, the only answer is do drill a small hole into the ball and try to screw a machine screw into it so you can pull it out with a pair of pliers. Of course the ball is shot at that point.
3. If you are REAL lucky and it stayed in the pump, it may have moved to the side of the IPR and is still sitting next to the IPR internal tube and can be retrieved.
If you can't find it, give me a call.
