new transmission

my transmission is going out. will not shift to over drive, and all tow haul mode shifts are not working right. it seems to not keep back the truck when pulling a load. hard time going in and out of drive and reverse. We pulled pan and lots of stuff in fluid. dealer said he could rebuild and save me like $500. but new one will have warenrty 3 years unlimited miles. so I just came in today. 2700 for trany, cooler and torc converter. 250 labor (back door deal) just one more thing in long line on 6.0 problems! hate this truck and I am a ford guy. help

No problem with my trans 130,000 the guy up the road has 178,000 on his trans and no problems. The one thing we have in common is we change the fluid and filter when required.

Besides the mileage and year, was the tranny properly serviced at the correct intervals?

You beat me to it 69,

I was wondering the same thing, what it the maintence on the whole truck. You say you hate it but you would spend the money to fix it. If its that bad unload it and move on.

The tranny is supposed to be flushed every 30k. I would say if your not doing that atleast drop the pan, and change the external filter every 12-15k.

Its real important to maintain these trucks.

it's an 04. 56000 miles. just did a service last year. my brother works at the ford dealer. he helps with the up keep. I'm so into the truck I have to keep it. and I'm from utah. everyone here will not buy a used 6.0! still have payments. after all the "fixen" I'm upside down in it. I was going to get something new, but the wife wants the next new car. now she has to wait two more years so I can pay the trans. off.

What was the past service history and was the truck beat on. No offense but just too mny unknowns here. The torqueshift is a very dependable tranny and you seem to be outside the normal envelope.

Did the tranny have the planetary recall done. I have an 04 and had the recall done and it only made it to 45k.miles and it needed to be rebuilt again. I now have 147k miles on it and its going strong.

first drive after new trany

well, things seem to be working now. The old tranny was not beat. I pull my 23' boat and a 14' work trailer all under 6000 lbs. I do have a edge programmer. and have let it on extreme a few times when pulling. but I watch the temps. I think I just got a lemon. I had the oil cooler replaced when it was down getting the tranny in. also the egr cooler was plugged off last year. I put a coolant filter on two weeks ago. I have a straight 3" pipe. No cat or muffler. I love the truck when it's running but hate it at the shop!

It is known that the Edge tuner is a Torqshift killer. So put some money aside for another transmission down the road.

Most charge extra for replacing the external filter.

All that torqueshift bashing and the smoking gun is in the owners hand. Probably won't be the 1st or last.
