Picking up rig on Friday!

Hey fella's,
Im pretty excited about this coming friday as Ill be flying down to Vancouver to pick up my new to me truck!

2008 F-350 Crew cab, dually, Lariat, 6.4, dark gray colour, beige? interior. With 47,xxx KM's.
Not only that I get to spend the weekend with my girlfriend whom I havent seen in two months. Going to be a good weekend!

This will be my first diesel, and ive only test drove the 6.4 before.
Anyways, Im curious how the headlights are on these trucks, hi/low beams. Stock, are they fairly decent or do you guys swap them out?
What about oil, synthetic? Im not sure what they have in there now but I live in the north so Im thinking I should go with 10w-30? or maybe 5w-40??

Per my research on here the first thing(s) ill be doing is the spartan tuner with the dpf delete and ill go from there.
Oh, can someone tell me the size of the fuel tank? And Im assuming the gearing is 4.10s?

Thanks!!
Clayton.

headlights are excellent, actually, with the trailer on they're a little too excellent for some people coming at you! Your dually is probably a long box so you should have a 38 gallon tank, i believe. Hope you enjoy it, I love mine.

I'd have to disagree on the headlights. I think in a straight ahead application they are just fine but in the peripheral they suck great big goats. When I get into poorly lit road areas and have to make 90 deg turns I'm pretty much blind until the nose swings around. No comparison to my old truck in that regard.

I don't know how you are going to use the truck but if you are doing any long distance hauling I think you will find the 38 gallon tank to not be that great. I hope you know already that these trucks (mines just like yours except a 4.30 diff) don't get very good fuel mileage. I can't speak liter but I get around 13 to 14 MPG driving and 9 or so towing a big 5er. Those are averages and some trips into the wind with that 5er I'm in the 6 to 7 range. Even with a 4.10 you won't do much better. The tune might help some but like somebody said today, spartan is for going fast not saving fuel. Titan makes after market tanks, I have a 60 gallon model and I think they make a 65 or 70 also. Easy install and works great. Good luck with your new truck.

if you think your 38 gallon tank sucks, you should try my short box w/ the 30.5 gallon tank for towing, i pretty much get the same mileage as you so it seems like i have to stop every 5 minutes when towing... but that's the worst thing i can say about my truck, so i guess there's worse places to be.

Thats too bad about the poor mileage but yes, I am aware of it. Ive also looked into those titan tanks as well.
Ill be doing a good 12-15 hr drive on sunday so Ill really find out how bad it is!! Im not overly concerned but ill do what I can to improve it.

LOL, yeah my 01 was an extended cab with a 28 gal tank. When I got on the interstate I could see to where i had to get to to refuel. Put a 55 gal tank on and it made a big difference.

Congrats on the truck! If there is one thing I would recommend that would be to check all the fluids before you fire it up. Degas takes the Ford Gold coolant. You can find it at Napa with the ford spec # on it if there is one where you are.

Need to check fluids weekly!

question, how much ground clearance do you lose with those bigger tanks? I've thought about them but I do a little off roading during hunting season (nothing real serious, mostly deep snow) and don't want to encounter any issues with that.

I have the titan 60 on my 350 crew cab DRW. It hangs down 6 inches or so below the stock one. I had a 55 gal from aero tank on my previous truck F250 extcab 4x4 with off road package. That one also hung down about the same, I did some mild off road with that truck and tank and it was never a problem. The aero tank was steel and could probably have taken a good hit. The titan is composit of some kind, I don't think it would withstand much of a lick. They do sell a shield for it though. I took some pictures of mine for someone, if I can find them I'll post on here.
