"tick" after cranking.
ok guys, i got a good one for you. my current f250 has a 351m in it. i had noticed after shutdown in the past that i heard a "ticking" sound. i just assumed it was the usual metal expanding and contracting "tick" that alot of vehicles have. well im in the middle of getting the truck put back together after my cab swap. im working on the wiring now, go the motor to crank, but havent gotten power the ignition system yet. after cranking it, i noticed the same "tick" i always attributed to engine heat. it will sit there and make the sound for a minute or two after i stop cranking. any ideas what it might be? maybe valve springs settling? lifters bleeding down?

How long/often is it making the sound? Is it once every couple seconds or in time with the RPMs? It could be that you need to adjust your valve lash.
