cold mornings= crap.

Hope you guys can come through again. When it is cold in the mornings (60 or below) when I start the truck which starts right up fine, sometimes with a small amount of black smoke puffs out. if I don't let it warm up for about 5 mins at least when I take off to take my son to school. Once I hit 30 ish or above it losses power and even starts to drop rpms even with more throttle no rise in rpms. If I let off and cruise to the stop light about 500 or so feet and wait till the light is green and take off like nothing wrong for the rest of the drive. Any direction would be great I am at a loss. Oil was just changed. Thank you guys

EBP valve may be sticking closed, I know they are not supposed to, but I have seen it happen, with the symptoms you describe except that it didn't get better. We were in Idaho hunting and got lucky enough to find an honest dealer with a mechanic who knew 7.3's Post Falls I think.

I don't the only thing I can make out of the ordinary is a flutter or erratic exhaust when it happens but clears up at idle then the truck is fine??????

Did u change the oil yourself or have someone do it? Mine was doing that after an oil change too. It would start fine, leave the driveway fine and then lose power and cutoff about 500 feet beyond driveway. It was a pain to get re-cranked and would hardly run. Once it got warm, it did not do that. It also would not do it if I plugged it in.

This past weekend I changed the oiland filter on it again and it has not acted up since. Before I did that, you could count on it to cut-off or lose throttle when cool outside and the temp hand below normal range. I am still in a wait and see but i definitely see a difference in the way it runs so far.

Are your glow plugs staying on long enough? They should continue to heat after the engine is running for 90 seconds or so.

They seem to be fine I don't know how long they are on for I don't try to take off for at least a couple of mins when it does it but if I'm in a hurry I only wait about a min at least and it will do it also I'm not hot rodding around either
