Under the carb is the spacer, with a gasket in between. Under the spacer is the intake, with a gasket in between.
In the upper left of the intake where the intake meets the spacer (passenger side closest to the firewall) there is a pinkey long sized hole, that i have a lot of black soot build up, and it appears that it goes up into the spacer, but nowhere else. I have to replace the gasket anyways becase there is nasty black sooty bubbling coming out the choke side of the gasket, but i was wondering the purpose of this?
so can i just put on a normal gasket flat cover all gasket to cover this up and block it, or do i need to get a different spacer that has the egr port in the back?
Is your spacer just a dummy from someone having removed the EGR system, or what? If it's the original EGR spacer, there should be a passage that lines up with that and leads to one side of the EGR valve (and other internal passages leading from the other side of the valve to where the intake air passes through).
If you aren't running an EGR spacer/valve, then you'll be blocking it off with either the spacer or the gasket ... doesn't really matter which. If you're running EGR, then naturally you'll want a gasket that has the passage and doesn't block it off.
there is no egr installed on it right now, the spacer doesnt have an output in the rear for it. the only hole is in front for the PCV off the passenger bank cylinders.
so just a gasket to cover the hole? the gasket thats in it now has a hole for the egr.
Shouldn't really matter whether the gasket has a hole or not, if the spacer doesn't ...the exhaust will stop when it hits the spacer and have nowhere else to go.
