351-460, any fab work required?

I can't tell if the pedestals that the 460 motor mounts to on the crossmember the same?

I basically want to use a '84 F250/351W frame to replace my '85 F250/460 frame with no welding. The mounts appeared to be a part of the cross member, but I can't really see a difference...

I plan to put my motor, transmision, and rear end in the '84. It's a 351/C4/D60 now, I want my 460/C6/10.25" combo. Does anyone see a problem with this swap?

The mounts are riveted on, and you will have to swap the 460 ones over, as the 460 factory mounts are dual stud, cut the rivets off, knock 'em out and bolt the new ones on.
Also, to put a 460 in a non 460/diesel chassis, you will need a remote oil filter kit, as the 460/diesel crossmember is shaped differently to allow room for the factory angled adapter.

That 84 has a small block C6, no C4 behind a W, and definitely not in a 250.

So was the 460/Diesel frame a different frame then?

My concerns are the motor mounts (which seems like no problem), the transmission (sounds like they have the same one) and the rear end.

If I can't swap my rear end into this frame easily, I'll have to pass on the truck I think... Despite being all the same color as mine, and having the parts I need to get mine all 99% perfect...

I am under the impression that all you need is:

motor mounts of the kind that transdapt has = part number 4226 I think.
oil filter relocation kit
c-6 for a 460 if you don't already have one.

Everything you are looking to do is a bolt in swap besides the oil filter, that slight difference in the crossmember shape is the only issue you will have, the frames are otherwise the same.
Being you have the 460 truck already, you have the mount stands you need, no need to buy anything, just have to swap them over.
As for the rear end, bolt in swap, get yourself some new u-bolts and cut the old one out, slide the new one in.

You dont need a relocation kit for the filter IF you get the filter adaptor from a 460 that was in one of these trucks. they can be turned and indexed around quite a bit. THey work but are fairly tight for space.

I think you are wrong 82. There is no difference between a small block and big block front crossmember. My 80 had a 400 and i put a 429 in and could of used a angled filter adapter with no issues

The factory 80+ adapter won't work with a non 460/diesel crossmember... This is the one thing I always mean to take pictures of but never do, and of course I don't have a single Ford at home right now either.
The 460/diesel crossmember doesn't have the big cutout for the filter like the smallblock one, and the front corner of the crossmember is laid back a bit for filter clearance.

A oil filter relocation kit has been on my "must buy" list for quite some time... I'll buy one, and I'll take photos during the swap to prove one way or the other for people....

But the big question I'm having trouble visualizing at this hour, will I be able to keep my factory oil-cooler adapter with a aftermarket oil filter relocation kit.... I believe I can.... hm...

What factory 80 adapter? the 460 was not offered in a F-series from 80-82

By 80+ I meant 83+ if you're going to be picky about it, either way, it's a different part than was used in the 70's, and I know the one from a 70's van at least won't work either, and neither will the later 90's one with the oil to water cooler setup either, that one requires serpentine belts to fit too.
Basically, if it's a non 460 or diesel 83+ chassis, it should have a remote filter setup. I've seen guys hack out the oil filter hole in the crossmember bigger, as the 460 filter sits forward of where the smallblock and 335 series one does, but, I really don't like that idea.

Ok. cuz i was wondering. My 80 has no issues putting a 460 in. And it was never even an engine choice
