I have been researching tires for quite awhile and finally pulled the trigger today. Went from 285/75/16's in Michelin LTX M/S to some 235/85/16 Wild Country XTX Sports from Les Scwab in Boise. My wife's first comment was.... "They are kinda small..... Are they manly enough"?
I hope she gets used to them soon. They are a little shorter and a ton narrower which is what I am after. I'm trying to go back to stock height and get the extra traction for snow and dirt. I'm also hoping that my milage will stay the same or go up a little. Been averaging about 14 in town, 18 on the highways.
As I was searching, I didn't find much info on the tires so if there is interest I will post my impressions etc. I'll get some photos up in the next few days as well.
"My wife's first comment was.... "They are kinda small..... Are they manly enough"?" Gotta love 'em!!
When I bought my snow tires last year I was looking for 235's for the same reasons you mentioned but I couldn't find any. I settled on 265 Bridgestone Blizzaks instead. I'd be interested to hear if you see any difference!
I am hoping that they do really well in the snow. We don't get a whole lot here but we travel where it gets deep and slick at times. The tires are severe snow rated so hopefully they will do very well in whatever we run into.
Drove almost 250 miles today on snow packed or ice covered roads and over a fairly high pass. Until I had to head up a steep service road the truck never slipped at all. 4 high took care of that.... so much so I couldn't make it break loose.... but didn't try too hard.
I am very impressed so far. If they hold up well I am sold on them.
You bought Michelin snow tires, so they will do well in the snow. It all depends on how you drive in the snow. I'm not from around here and noticed most folks can't drive for **** in the snow in this part of Idaho. Darwin is strong in southern Idaho during the winter.
I wouldn't buy anything from Les Schwabb after they ripped off my folks. Les Schwabb is full of oxygen thieves.
and theres me looking to go bigger as I thought 245/75/16 were too small on my 350!
Mind you we don't get snow that often in England, but you should see us when we do get a centimeter of snow lol!! the whole country grinds to a shuddering stop, its crazy.
On a side note I returned 23.9 mpg on a 300 mile drive back from buying the truck!! which is a whole lot better than the 5 to 7 mpg I was getting in my Supercharged V10 6.8 Dually F350

Mechelement..... Sorry to hear of the bad experience your folks had at Schwabs. My whole family has had nothing but good experiences with them. The Michelins were totally toast by the time I was able to repair them but they died after about 70K.
Drove all over Boise today, including up into the foothills for work and once again, nary a slip. Great Tires!!!
