Performance Rebuild Kit from Summit
300 I6 4.9L and suprisingly enough, they do. For a '91 it is $287.99 for gaskets, rings, and pistons. I called my local Fod dealership, and they said $170 for top gaskets, $70 for bottom gaskets, and pistons are just the regular non-performance, so i didn't bother asking.
I was thinking about just freshening up my engine with just gaskets and rings, but the Summit tech was making some good arguments, and the dealership tech agreed with him.
What do you guys think about this?
As well, where can i find these parts?
-mass airflow sensor
-good chip or reprogrammer
For that matter, why are you rebuilding your engine? What are your compression numbers? What does the leakdown test show? What is your oil pressure? Unless there's a problem, there's no reason to throw parts at it. Well cared for 300s typically run a quarter of a million miles or more without rebuild. As for Summit's "high performance" rebuild kit, NEVER buy anything that Summit sells under their own brand name. They sell the quality name-brand stuff under the manufacturer's name; the Summit branded stuff is largely made-in-the-third-world knockoffs. Price out quality parts from Summit and they will still be less than the Ford dealership, and you'll know what you're getting.
