When I lock my truck (75 f-100 4X4) into 4wheel drive I can barely turn the wheel and it feels like the wheels are about to come off and I hear a moaning sound under the truck. It feels like each revolution of the wheel I am running over a big railroad tie or rock and then it goes over and repeats itself.
What is wrong or needing replaced as I know this is not good. Also even when it is not in 4wheel drive I have noticed I cant crank the wheel all the way or it does the same thing, only not near as drastic. Does anyone know what this might mean>
it sounds to me like the axle u-joints are frosen and need replaced. common prob. however just remember when you are on dry pavement and locked into 4x4 you will experience binding in the front end.

Its not binding at all, it is more like I am running over a small log on the front end and after Im over it it repeats itself. If I dont crank the wheel at all it is fine except I can at times hear a moaning sound.
binding will cause similar problems. but my bet is the u joints. had an 81 f250 4x4 the drivers side ujoint in the front was wore out and caused it to do that if turned all the way in either direction
