I have a 2001 V-10 gasoline 6.8l Excursion. Recently, it's been unable to idle on the first start after sitting a few hours.
I think it's a fuel pressure problem, either from a leaking injector or fuel pressure regulator or check valve (if there is a check valve?)
I replaced the fuel pump about 10,000 miles ago.
The symtom is that on the first start of the day, or after sitting for a few hours, it starts and then dies. It will do this repeatedly.
If I cycle the key (without starting it) several times then it will start and idle no problems. Once it starts/idles the problem is gone until it sits for a few hours, so it seems I'm loosing fuel pressure.
How do I debug without having to remove/check all the 10 injectors?
Mine has done the same thing every once in a while ( like once in about every 4 months). I start the engine then it dies. I give it a bit of throttle fo about 10 seconds and then it's fine fo a couple of months. No clue to what it is. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
