Nice job. Looks to be in pretty good shape other than the fender. Bedside still in decent shape. Nice score.

The truck runs a like a champ. I bought a passenger side fender brand new in box for 55 bucks. I still need a drivers side front fender. If anyone has one please let me know, I need it.

It leaks a tad bit of oil. I know the oil pans tend to rot out, but my dad seems to think it could be the rear main seal. Anyone got any info on that. I really would rather not screw with a rear main.

I grew up in Buffalo. I moved away in my mid 20's. I have driven through the worst weather WNY has to offer with a 2wd pickup truck and never got stuck. I drove to school in December of 1995 when it has been snowing all night and the 400 was one lane with 12" deep ruts. I went back through later in the day and there were 20+ cars and 15+ 18 wheelers in the ditch. I drove home one night and the snow was so deep that it came over my bumper going through most drifts. I was afraid to stop at a red light because I didn't want to lose my momentum so I sailed right through it at 20 mph. Trust me when I say that all you need is a good set of snow tires and some weight in the back. If that doesn't get you to where you need to go then stay home until you learn how to drive.

I just noticed that you got the 4x4. I can't say that I blame you but that body is in rough shape. Check the frame out very carefully and also look at the rear spring shackles as they are very vulnerable to rust in this generation.

i live in buffalo also, 4x4 is nice but not a must. i drove my 2 wheel drive flareside for 3 years threw everythin. just needed weight in the back. i still use weight in the bed of my 1996 4x4. hardly use 4x4 with my meaty tires and weight.

The frame is solid and the shackles are brand new... has brand new shocks in the front... I just bought gabriel ultras for the rear. Bought the passenger side fender for 55 bucks brand new. Gonna find the other side and have it sprayed... and bingo. The 97 was pretty rough aswell. It had been sprayed with spray cans to cover some of the rust... and many patches had been applied on the body. Im very happy with the deal. I only paid 1000 for the camaro (Shhhh) and he wanted 2200 for the truck.

Congrat's. It looks like a great truck, looks like it was well maintained. Eventhough its not XCab, you can still have fun squeezing a bunch of your girl friends in the front seat.

That looks like a decent truck. I recommend you buy some rust converter and start painting!

What do you think it would cost to have it repainted? and could I have it repainted with the original colors? I can't seem to locate a place to buy the decals.

A paint job is generally pretty expensive...but I was actually referring to painting the rusting frame and sheetmetal. The rust on that truck is just gonna get worse in these NY winters and you'll wish you'd done something about it.

I already had plans to take a wire wheel and get down to bare metal and paint with POR15

On the rear main vs oil pan, it's hard to say. I had a truck with over 200k miles that had a slow leak. I always suspected the rear main, but it wasn't ever bad enough for me to both fixing it. Over the course of a year the leak started getting really bad. Upon further inspection, 90% of my oil loss was through the pan.

after fixing it, the truck still had a super minor leak, which I'm sure was the rear main.

I guess you really need to inspect that pan and see how it looks. Maybe clean up the oil that might be stuck to everything down there and see if you can find where it's coming from.

Ok...POR15 sticks better to rust than bare metal. I was suggesting rust converter cuz it's cheaper and way less messy!
