Stuck clutch

A friend just got a 77 F150, 2wd, 6 cyl, 4 speed.
Ok, heres the problem - the truck had been sitting for a couple years- I got it started for him but the clutch wont let go when you push it in. Is there an easy way to break it free , assuming it is rusted to the flywheel, or am i looking at pulling the tranny and replacing it. We are working on a tight budget so a quick and simple fix is the best.

Stuck clutch

Does the pedal feel normal, too stiff or like it's not hooked up?

It will not rust to the flywheel due to the disc friction material. Look in the fork hole and see if the throwout bearing in sliding ok.

Well I guess I had better take a closer look at the thing. I want the temp outside to get above zero so I wont freeze my fingers, was 20 below last night. wouldnt be so bad if it was in my garage instead of a driveway 20 miles away. Will let you know what I find..

Sounds like a bad pressure plate.

Stuck clutch

semi metallic clutches will seize to the plate, start it in gear and stand on the brake ,it will buck and kick but eventually free up, i have two power wagons and a friend with a jeep this happens to , can't let em sit to long moisture causes rust, last time i had to back up the driveway so i had some down force while the rig was in reverse, it came loose, runs and works fine. good luck

I had similar problem. What happened to me was a mouse nest had been built in the bell housing and when I pushed the clutch in, centrifical force packed the nest tightly between the pressure plate fingers and the pressure plate housing. Had to pull the transmission and bellhousing and replace the pressure plate . The nest was so tightly packed in there I had to replace the pressure plate. I've since ran some wires through the bellhousing vent holes so the blakety blank mice can't get in.
