We don't get one because the UAWs that built the old Ranger are getting shut down. Ford does not seemingly see enough potential sales on a new Ranger to justify building a new plant in the US. The new Ranger is too friking large anyway.
No we sure don't get one. Ford just doesn't get it. I will not move up to a f-150 I like my little truck and the 25-27 mpg I get driving back and forth to work. I actually tried to build one from the Ford website. And guess what if you stick with a 4x2 and a 2.3 liter engine you can't have a 4:10 rear axle unless you change to an Automatic. WTF. And there are no packages available. only choice is radio and cloth or vinyl seats. I really would like what I currently have 2.3 5sp AC, PS, PB radio. I would like to add power locks/windows and cruise control. (I did after market cruise and it works fine) But Ford doesn't appear to offer this in there more basic Ranger. I don't want or need an automatic tranny, 4x4 or a v6. So when it comes time to replace the 2003 ranger I currently have. I guess it is hello something Japanese. I would buy the Ranger shown in the link above in a heart beat if I could get it here in the USA with the Diesel option.

I gather FORD doesn't have a 21st century factory? Kia and others here in the US, including 2 GM plants, can switch platforms they manufacture in a matter of days. Hyundai Santa Fe production has been moved to the new Kia plant in GA so that Alabama can concentrate on Sonata demand/production as an example. The new Ranger may appear big, but we forget how much the F150 has grown in the last 2 years especially. Ot's actually kind of an F 100.
I for one would love a "Midsize" pickup with a small V8. If my 2010 F150 3V Screw 2WD can manage 19.5 mog, just think what that "primitive" drivetrain would do in a 4200-4400 lb truck. Tacoma rules this market simply because there's hardly any competition. Why else would Toyota get away with rear drum brakes, weak tailgates, weak rear leafs and an unchanged interior for 7 years?? Come on Ford..................Bring it!
Because Ford thinks you should buy a F-150 instead.........
Yeah, buyers who wanted a $12,500 4cyl manual, small truck wont bat an eye at moving up to a $40,000 F-150 full size.
That "thing" reminds me of a 1963 Ford falcon 4 door they used to have at the local junk yard, yep, they cut the *** end off of to make a yard truck.... "COOL"
Trucks are now included in CAFE standards and car companies aren't gonna meet 35mpg average with pickups. Diesels could be made to get that kind of mileage, but USA companies don't like them, for whatever reason. If they filled the bed with lithion-ion batteries, we could have a electric truck that could go 25-50 miles on 24 hr charge. WOO-HOO! Don't hold my place in line to buy one. Rather ride a mule.
I wonder why auto companies always start out with small high gas mileage vehicles that morph into larger and heavier packages? Must be Micky D's fault for starting the super size craze.

I couldn't have said it better! There really is a market out there for a small fuel efficent pickup truck! If ford would slim the ranger down to the size it used to be and install a modern 4 cylinder turbo diesel I would be digging up mason jars and standing in line to buy one.....
I have been driving a tdi powered 1983 vw rabbit pickup (remember those) for years now, getting 52 - 55 mpg. While i can't tow a boat with the little thing it does have a useable bedspace (full 6 feet) and fills most of my needs, hauling building materail,motorcycles,etc... It is ridiculous that there is not one single small diesel option for the american market! Sorry guys but the early 80's rangers with diesels scare me for fear of parts availablity... I owned three ford rangers in the past, but to be honest the mileage isn't up to par when considering the reduced capacity.
Hopefully as we become more of a "global market" the options alloted to the overseas buyers for years will come our way...
Thats what would sell, a updated version of the 80s size Ranger.
All the new high tech stuff, mated to the incredibly rugged 80s style and size of Ranger.
Those 1st gen Rangers with twin I beam or Twin TTB were as tough as any full size, and took incredible punishment.........creature comforts and high tech bells and whistles, there weren't many.

Any facts to back this statement up? Do you think the "UAWs" as you call them can stop them from importing a truck. There is already a plant building the Ranger in the US if Ford wanted to keep on making the Ranger.

Uhm, yeah, in case you hadn't noticed, Ford has been using their international position to fire the United Auto Workers. The Ranger plant is one of the last Ford plants manned but the UAW, and Ford wants to cut that leash.
So if the Ranger is less than 2% of Fords sales, you sell the Transit van, and you don't want to build a new factory to increase that 2% sales, why not just shut it down.
I'm not saying I completely agree. But as far as importing the world ranger, I have zero interest in buying a larger Ranger, to me that defeats the whole purpose.
