wheel/tire question

Hello everyone, new member with tire/wheel quesitons.

I am in the process of getting my to-do list to fix up my grandpa's '66 F-250 he gave to me. I am getting rid of the orginal split ring wheels and want to replace with some plain steelies because there isn't a tire shop in my area that will work on them. My quesitons are: What size 16" wheel will a need to fit the 7.50 x 16 tires that are currently on the truck? I cannot find any markings on the wheels, so I would like to know if they are 16x6, 16x7, etc?? My other question is where can I buy some nylon bias tire like the current setup? All 4 tires are 7.50 x 16, the back 2 are B.F. Goodrich Silvertown mud grips and the front doesn't have a manufactuer, but they are a smooth tread tire. Thanks in advance. Drew from Bama

A 16X6 or 16X7 wheel will work, your factory wheels are most likely no wider than 6 inches. Any full service tire store can still get the 750-16's you speak of although they will be overseas made. If you want BFG's like you cuurently have, possibly Coker Tire (expensive). The bias ply tires are becoming more and more obselete. I would recommend radials in LT235/85R-16 instead. They will ride and steer better, plus last longer and probably be lower priced since they are more common.

Thanks for the response jhooch. I would definetly consider going with some radials,(easier to obtain , ride quality would be much improved). I like the looks of the white wheels, especially the buggy wheel. Will the 235-85's be a similar match to the 7.50-16's? I would like to keep the tall skinny look that the current setup has, because it has been like this for as long as I can remember. Thanks again

Yes, they are very close dimensionally. You could also use LT215/85R16 which is slightly narrower and shorter than the 235.

I will go to a tire store and compare in person. But first things first, I must get some wheels first. Thanks, again.
