I am thinking I am going to put SD vin code V front springs on my 97 f350 along with SD vin code B rearsprings and see where it sits compared to my factory worn out springs with ada leafs on them! If not tall enough for my tires I then would either go with a sky shackle flip or new tire rim combos!! Question I have is has anyone done just the SD spring swap and what are your thoughts on it? I know the fronts are longer but I think should still be able to just put them in and the front shackle will be angled more forward with out issues but correct me if I am wrong!?!?
They aren't going to fit. I hear the fact you're not trying to drive this combo and just want to set the truck down to see how it sets (that is what you're trying to do isn't it?). They are close to 4 inches longer and I just don't believe you have that much room to move with your front shackles. You have to do the reverse shackle and then move the front mounting points forward. From the reseach that I have done the V codes will set the same as your stock springs. That means that your truck should set only the 2 1/2" to 3" higher the shackle kit lifts your truck. But hey, folks on this forum are always telling others folks that this won't work or that won't work. You might be able to make this happen if you work at it hard enough. If you have the time and energy go ahead and try it. And let us know how it went.
The V codes would sit a little taller without a shackle reversal, but you can see the issue with trying to run them without:
I was going to run them like that and put in GM style shackle brackets, hence the stock dimple being cut out of the frame in that picture, but, I ended up changing tire size and went with a reversal.
For comparison, this is how it sat with stock TTB springs, so a little lower than F350 springs would have:
I unfortunately don't have any pictures of it with the reversal on the 38's for comparison.
This is 44's with an uncut fender:
I proceded to hack a bunch out of them though... lol
The biggest gain with the swap was ride quality, it rides like a stock superduty... LOL
I did the V-code swap with a shackle reversal. I don't see any way to use the factory swing shackle and it's location with any good results. Matter of fact I think that if you manage to get the v-codes bolted, up their going to PIN the shackle to the frame. These springs are much longer than the factory. Heck even with the shackle reversal from Sky, pushed all the way to the end of my frame, I still had to use a zero rate block to get my axle centered in the wheel well.
If your serious about using SD leafs then you need to look into a shackle reversal. Sky's kit works great if you are using factory springs but with the SD springs it would be best to have a custom job. If I were to do another SD spring swap I would just make my own reversal like done in the above pictures
Thanks for all the info guys!! Short story on the truck! Bought it site unseen except for pic. Was told it had a 4" lift, when my buddy got it to my drive way from NJ the lift grew to 6" and was way to tall for me! To get rid of the lift I traded a guy for his stock springs and set up which the springs had 200000 miles on them so they were worn a lil added ada leafs to them made a big difference in the trucks stance as well as the ride is horrible! So in the last day I was able to score a set of new rear 350 springs for 75 bucks so now I may buy a set of new fronts and see how she sits with the 315's on! If to low then I will go ahead with the front shackle reversal kit! Thanks for all the info again guys it was very helpful and will be used!!
