I have a ford f-150 1996 with a 302 and i want to put a 1990 7.3 IDI diesel engine in it thats out of a ford f-350. I have a five speed manual in my truck rite now and am wondering if it would bolt up to it or if i need a new trans, and if so what trans should i get(preferably a manual). Also for this swap what all would i have to do to my truck.

You will need a new trans all together. The trans you have will not bolt up. You will also need to swap out your front suspension. The Diesel engine will be way too heavy for a 1/2 ton suspension. I know some like the IDI engine, but if a person is going to go through all the pain of swapping, might want to consider the DIT, more power. For specifics on your swap interest, check this thread out..... http://https://www.ford-trucks.com/f...p-started.html
completly re do the fuel system. the gasser has the pumps in the tank. the dash cluster will have to be changed for the tach, not sure if the other gauges will work right for the idi. stay with a standard tranny and that will cure alot of headaches. the best thing is to have a donor truck close by.

I second that! Fuel and electrical are gonna be your biggest challenges. I dont know if HD Coils are adaquate enough. Just make sure longevity of the springs integrity is maintained.
the electrical should be easy, the idi only needs one wire to run. keep the stock wiring and alt, use the coil hot wire to energize the pump. there is a wire for timing advance on warm up, but not entirely nessecary. the starter should be easy to adapt also. iam still concerned with the spindels and wheel bearings, but if there is a donor truck... just make the 150 a 250
