Got my 6637 coming from Clay this week... thinking that it's a great time to do the foil delete while I'm in there and shine up that ic pipe with a wire wheel... if someone wanted to paint it, is there something special that should be used? Don't know that I will, but gathering ideas of course. Mainly, the whole engine compartment could use a little tidying up, so how does one do that most effectively without hurting anything? I know someone mentioned on another post running it through the old handheld car wash, is alot of water gonna be okay on the engine? I know there's a lot of electrical on it, trying to get it cleaned without going back to my Navy days and cleaning something with a toothbrush! Thanks in advance, I always get more replies than I can ponder in a day!
I would use simple green and real carefully.. keeping the water to a minimum.. Sounds like you need to do the "CCV" mod.. It keeps all of the oil vapors off your engine.. See the following thread for more info and pic's: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...done-pics.html
If you do the foil delete try to get your hands on some good paint stripper, it will turn that glue underneath the foil to butter. Those pipes scratch pretty easy so I use a good thick plastic putty knife to remove the stripper and glue. Sharpen the putty knife on a wheel or just scrape it across some concrete every once in awhile. Works like a champ. Of course if your gonna paint it, some scratches won't matter any way.
No to the car wash. Simple green and a garden hose, hand cleaner and some rags, or more likely a combination of both to clean things.
A can of regular spray paint will work. You might scratch it up putting them in, or wires/hoses rubbing on it may give you some bare spots, but high heat paint isn't needed.
Keep the heavy stripper off your hands. Paint brush it on then use nitrile gloves when using a scraper. Some industrial stuff burns and eats flesh alive.
In one weekend i did a foil delete, AIH delete, Complete CCV mod with O-rings, Added a few electrical things, GPR LED mod, maybe some more cant remember. Just grabbed all the info on here on Friday and went to the store and to town (on my truck) on Saturday and Sunday. id like to go back and paint my IC tubes as well. I actually had fun because it wasnt "NEEDED" work.
