Well, after over a year of membership, I've finally gotten around to posting pics of Red for ya. It's not hard to tell, but it's a 1991 F150 5.8. I bought it from my grandfather a little over 2 years ago for $2600, and it's been worth every penny. It's been a learning experience as I'd been driving a 1975 step side Chevy short box for the previous 11 years. That's the truck I learned to wrench on. But this truck has been the one I've learned computer systems [and Ford design] on, with the help of so many of you terrific forum friends. So I thought I'd finally show you the truck so many of you have helped me out with.
Overall shot from left.
Overall shot from right- little tighter as my house was preventing me from backing up any further.
Accidents happen. I had running boards on the truck when this happened- I'd been meaning to remove them for a while, this just gave me an excuse to get my but in gear.
Tool box and rubber mat came with the truck. The missing section of the plastic strip on the tailgate was there when I bought the truck, but I never got around to repairing it and after so many slam-shuts of the tailgate, it eventually just broke off. I'm thinking about taking my dremel and cutting it off square where it says "Ford" and then removing the rest of the plastic strip so it looks a little better, but we'll see.
Alas, the interior. Not the cleanest in the world, but I don't keep it too filthy either. I usually give it a good, thorough cleaning 3 or 4 times a year and that's good enough for me. For those who don't know- compressed air or even a leaf blower works much better for cleaning versus vacuuming.
Well, that's that. I suppose I could've gotten a shot of the engine bay, but if you've ever seen a stock 1991 5.8 engine bay, you've seen the engine bay on Red.
Yeah it's got good towing power with O/D off. I've pulled a 2000 pound and a 3200 pound trailer behind it before and it pulled very well. I was able to maintain above 60 MPH without too much trouble unless there was a head wind.
The black tailgate reflector is the wrong year for your truck anyway. It is suppose to be red
Hmm... didn't know that! Thanks for the heads up- but I'm still not gonna worry about it. Maybe if I come across a deal in the future, but I'm not gonna go chasing after it.
She seems in fair shape, i hope she gives you many good years of service.
So do I. She's got almost 143k on her right now, but it's still running smooth. I'm gonna be replacing the oil pan gasket this weekend so that's gonna be fun. But other than replacing some gaskets and doing some minor mechanical/electrical work to it, I've had little trouble. So far it's proven to be well worth it.
