We're watching an 8 month old Golden and an 8 month old Bassett hound for in-laws that were at Disney World last week.
Our dogs are trained to do things as we like them to be done. These visitors do things the way their owners like them to be done. Unlike visiting nieces and nephews, who can understand your directions, dogs with bad manners are just a pain in the a**.
I was glad to do it to help out MIL and SIL, and the dogs really are nice enough, but I won't miss them being on their way today.
Then we can get back to just our own 2 dogs and their routines.
I feel for ya, man. One of our own dogs is a Jack Russel/ Fox Terrier mix that we got when he was one year old. He has more "personality" than the two visiting dogs combined and he was a handful to get trained.
It'll be over soon if its not already........

Quebeckers don't do Thanksgiving. They're still sore at being conquered by the English.

The great American statesman Benjamin Franklin offered Quebec an opportunity to join the American Revolution. But that would have meant fighting alongside the same men who had helped the British defeat Quebec in the French and Indian War. And if there's one thing the French do better than carry a grudge, it's spite.

At least the French Language stays in Quebec. Here in the States they are teaching my kids to speak Mex as a second language and will fail them if they don't do it. So much for freedom eh? It's scary to think that if the majority rules than the aliens and welfare recipients rule.

It's law to teach both French and English in Canada, because we're a bilingual country. Up to grade 7 is mandatory for sure, but I think after grade 8 it becomes optional.

When I decided to get a dog (after being petless for 6 years) I went to SPCA.

I was NOT going to deal with puppy crap... litterally and figuratively lol

I got lucky. The best dog ever! Seriously... ever... =)

I heard from a private pilot, that air traffic controllers at smaller airports in Quebec will give instructions only in French until its obvious that the pilot only speaks/understands English........I though English was the universal language of aviation?

All I know is that most of my family barely speak any English out there, although they have learned a bit but still not a heck of a lot. My young cousins are learning English though. I think depending how small the airport is, most people will default to French since that is what lands there the most.

So my two dogs have laid the smackdown on the pup. They're fed up with his yapping and they're letting him have it. My younger dog is about ready to rip him a new hole. Grabbed him by the scruff and damn near tossed him. My older dog had enough and brought out his "old, tired and annoyed" bark.

I'm laughing it up, letting my "pack" sort itself out. Meanwhile, my wife is pissed because of 3 dogs barking at the same time for about a half hour straight.

I haven't seen my older dog with this much energy in a couple years, so it can't be all bad.

Keep in mind my two dogs are Maltese x's.

Yeah all these p.c ******* are really doing a number on this country. What kind of country forces people to learn a foreign language? If you lived closer to Mexico and that's what you wanted, then fine, but what right do they have to force parents into going along?

That is cool to watch the "pack" sort itself out. Our guest dogs let yesterday and after a week, everyone pretty much knew their place in the hierarchy.
Years ago we had a boxer mix who was the coolest dog I ever owned. She was a fool for catching a frisbee. But, she was alpha through and through. Worked out fine with the cocker we also had at the same time, but boy when she was near my sister's dog (also alpha) the heat between the two of them was palpable. They never truly learned to coexist during family visits or camping vacations and scrapped many times. Even in their twilight years when the scrap was mostly out of them, they would growl at one another when being led past.
That dog cost us a boatload of money by getting into fights with at the most inopportune times. Although she was a tough bit**, she was truly thin skinned and cut easily. On at least two occasions she required overnight stays at the vet or urgent care vet on holiday weekends or Sundays.

Still think about and miss her often though. There is no replacement for your first dog.
