Hey, I have to replace the leaking oil pan in my 93 F150 5.0 5Spd 4x4 and started the job today. I got the old pan out, everything cleaned up & started reassembly. BUT no matter how much I try, I cant align the OIL PUMP shaft and reinstall the pump at the same time. I JUST CANT. The motor is still in the truck & I'm reaching in between the pan hanging down and the lower half of the block. I can either see, or get my hand up in-between to do the work, just not both. Can i install the pump, set the motor back down, pull the distributor and install the pump shaft. Or is there a way that I am missing to align the pump-shaft-&-distributor at the same time from below? anyone who has any info would be appreciated.
Try using a breaker bar and socket on the crankshaft pully bolt to turn the engine over while installing the oil pump. You may need a friend to help turn the engine over!

You think a 302 is hard ,you should try it in a 460.
yes, you can put in oil pump, pull distributer, drop oil drive in then put distributer in
Hey, thanks for the replies. I got it. I had to walk away from it yesterday, and come back to it tonight. I used a mirror to help locate the bottom of the Dist. Once I got the pump shaft installed, used a rubber band from around the pump drive shaft and a main cap nut to apply enough side tension to hold it in place. Then I was able to use one hand to bottom the shaft out into the pump, and get the pump installed. I then cut the rubber band out. As a DIY'eR...... Phone Tech by trade I really thank Y'all for the help. It may be a small job for some, but for me its a big victory.
