Two Mods Lead to Over 600-hp PowerStroke
YouTuber details engine tune and muffler delete that equates to 614-rear-wheel-horsepower on his Ford 6.7-liter PowerStroke.
There’s a constant debate over what modifications or upgrades deliver the most bang for the buck. Whether you’re talking about cars or diesel trucks there are a lot of different opinions, approaches and options out there when it comes to adding horsepower. Corey of the Modern Diesel Corey YouTube channel recently posted a simple video that breaks down the only two modifications that he performed to the Ford 6.7-liter PowerStroke engine that resulted in over 600-horsepower to the wheels and an equally impressive 1132 lb-ft of torque. “Long story short, two mods gave me over 600 horsepower,” he says. Corey also posted a video of the truck on a chassis dyno to back up his claims. The clip of the dyno run shows the computer readout displaying that the truck’s engine did indeed produce 614 horsepower at the wheels. So how did Corey attain that number?
The first modification he details is the tune that has been done to the truck’s software. “In realistic terms, tuning is literally everything when it comes to getting max power out of your diesel,” he says in the video. The device he used to perform the tune is the EZ-LYNK 2.0. In reality the software programming does require that the EGR valve is disconnected, so that would be an additional modification. The cost for the EX-LYNK is just over $1,400.
The second modification that Corey performed to get to this power level was a comparatively simple and was a muffler delete. In this case the muffler was simply replaced with a straight section of exhaust pipe with the resonator left in place. Whether this is street legal really depends on where you live however and how strict local laws are regarding altering OEM equipment. Those are pretty impressive numbers for two relatively simple and easy modifications.
