This Amazing 1966 Ford Ranchero Has Just 14K Original Miles
After remaining with the original owner’s family until this spring, this ultra-clean 1966 Ford Ranchero is up for grabs.
The Ford Ranchero lasted multiple generations and sold quite a few units over its lifespan, in spite of the fact that it was based on multiple vehicles during those years. The idea of a car-based pickup proved popular for a while, then fell out of favor, though today, the Ford Maverick has somewhat rejuvenated that particular type of vehicle, even though it isn’t quite as car-like as the Ranchero. Regardless, these days, you rarely see pristine, low-mile examples like this stunning 1966 Ford Ranchero up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
With just 14k original miles showing on the odometer, this incredibly well-preserved 1966 Ford Ranchero is likely the nicest one out there, and it remained with the original owner’s family until this past April, when it was acquired by the selling dealer. Living its entire life in Southern California, this Silver Blue beauty looks no worse for wear, though the hood and inside of the bed area have been repainted. Regardless, paint this old doesn’t get much better.
Other that the limited respray and some Viking Performance shocks, this Ranchero is pretty much all original, right down to its 14-inch steel wheels, hub caps, and sparse cabin, which contains a blue vinyl bench seat, simple instrumentation, and a steering wheel with a column-mounted shifter for the three-speed C4 automatic transmission.
This 1966 Ford Ranchero is powered by the more desirable 289 cubic-inch V8, which was originally rated to produce 200 horsepower and 282 pound-feet of torque. That power flows to the rear wheels via the aforementioned gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The seller has gone through all of the mechanicals, replacing some things, tuning others, and flushing fluids to ensure the vintage ride runs as good as it looks, too.
Rancheros simply don’t get much nicer than this, though that ultimately may not matter much, given the fact that these things haven’t quite gained the favor of collectors like some other Blue Oval models. In fact, bidding has only reached $22k with a couple of days to go, which is somewhat modest. However, whoever manages to bring home this car/truck certainly won’t be disappointed.
