When Ford announced the 2.7L EcoBoost for the 2015 F-150, they touted its ability to run the Baja 1000. They touted the towing, the horsepower, and the performance. They also touted the fuel economy.
Ford made a big stink out of their new, smaller V6 EcoBoost engine that first appeared in the 2015 F-150. The 2.7L EcoBoost features some cutting edge engineering and the best fuel economy of all the F-150 engines currently available.

Ford’s new 2.7L EcoBoost is extremely efficient. It carries a 26 mpg rating on the highway, and is only a $400 upgrade over the base 3.5L naturally-aspirated V6. It’s also pretty quick, and pretty fun. But was a turbo gasoline engine the best choice in the new truck, or should they have gone the diesel route?
