Stolen Hennessey VelociRaptor Takes Police on Crazy Chase
Belonging to celebrity DJ Marshmello, the monster Ford VelociRaptor ended up getting toasted.
One thing you learn to love when you live in Los Angeles is a juicy car chases When “Breaking News” pops up on the screen, you can’t help but hope they cut to an aerial shot from the station’s eye in the sky offering a front row seat to the high-speed craziness. They’re on often, and they are endlessly entertaining. But this might be the first chase we recall involving such a beastly custom Ford truck. And not just any truck, a Hennessey VelociRaptor!
In fact, we know that VelociRaptor. We covered it last year when its owner–celebrity DJ Marshmello–had some custom work done on it by RBG LA.
She was a beauty. Tuned by Hennessey, the VelociRaptor recently underwent a 6×6 conversion. Under the hood it runs a supercharged 600 hp twin turbo V8. Marshmello, aka Christopher Comstock, had it customized with a Rolls-Royce Starlight ceiling, and a wrapped exterior that features his name. It’s value was $350K, conservatively. That was then.
And this is now.
The joyride began when the Ford F-550 was dropped off at a Galpin Ford dealership for service. The suspect made his way to the beefed up Raptor while on a bicycle. He dropped the Schwinn and decided he was a Ford man, taking off in the custom pickup.
He was spotted shortly thereafter by police, and a chase ensued. Local ABC affiliate KABC picked up the chase and went live.
It is remarkable how powerful and agile the VelociRaptor performs as the suspect swerves and puts the pedal to the metal, hitting speeds of about 100 mph. The chase went throughout the San Fernando Valley, on and off the freeway, and is one heck of a great unintentional ad for Ford truck handling.
It all came to an end when the suspect decided to make a run for the border…Taco Bell. After trying a shortcut in the drive-thru, he ended up crashing the truck into a light pole. Which falls over like a matchstick from the impact. That is one serious truck.
The suspect was arrested, and the truck is on its way back to the Ford dealer.
