Ford Super Duty Tremor Does Everything Well
The Super Duty Tremor was designed to be capable off-road, but it's also quite good at everything else.
Sweet Spot
Ford is always quick to develop products to meet ever-shifting consumer demands, and the Ford Super Duty Tremor is one such animal. Since a large percentage of buyers crave at least modest off-road capability from their pickups these days, the automaker figured - why not offer something a little more capable than the FX4 package? The result of those efforts is a truck that's quite capable of doing everything well, according to The Car Connection.

Capable Combination
For $3,975, the Tremor off-road package adds 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires, an upgraded off-road suspension, and a locking differential. It's a good value for sure, and when paired with Ford's new 7.3-liter Godzilla gas V8, it's also a pretty darn capable pickup, as TCC found out.

Do It All
TCC took the Tremor on a long road trip, hauled the family around in it, and of course, took it off-road for a little fun in the dirt. And what they discovered was that this truck can do it all very well. "Need to tow a massive boat or camper? It can do that," the rag noted. "Need to go off the beaten path to get your friend’s GMC Sierra AT4 unstuck? It can do that. Need to take a family road trip? It can do that."

Class of its Own
As TCC points out, the Super Duty Tremor is also a very unique vehicle in its class. "The only vehicle in this class with similar off-road capabilities is the Ram Power Wagon, but it isn’t rated to carry 4,210 pounds of payload and tow up to 15,000 pounds with a conventional hitch or 21,900 pounds with a gooseneck, though not all at the same time," they said. However, the Tremor doesn't have the Power Wagon's standard front hitch or electronic disconnecting front sway bar, though the former is available as an option.

Compare and Contrast
And of course, the Super Duty Tremor's sheer size means that it can't go places that the Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator, Ford Bronco, Ranger Tremor, or Colorado ZR2 can. But on the flip side, those vehicles also can't hold a candle to the SD when it comes to things like towing/hauling and sheer cargo and passenger space, either.

Saving Money
TCC also calls the 7.3-liter mill a "no-brainer," especially since it costs a mere $1,705 over the base 6.2-liter V-8 engine and provides a far cheaper alternative to the $10,795 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel. It is thirsty of course, as TCC only averaged around 14 mpg. But unless you routinely tow a lot or do so for long distances regularly, it's unlikely that you'll recoup the $10k diesel investment.

Big Money
The sticker price of this particular F-350 Lariat tester rings in at $70,120, which is a lot of dough for any vehicle. But the Super Duty Tremor is also a lot of vehicle for the money, offering up a supreme combination of capability, both on- and off-road, as well as luxury car-like comfort. And when you take that into consideration, it almost seems like a bargain.
