Shelby Centennial Edition F-150 Debuts as 800 HP Off-Road-Focused Pickup
The new Shelby Centennial Edition F-150 pays tribute to Carroll’s love of off-roading with plenty of power and suspension upgrades.
Carroll Shelby‘s namesake company continues to churn out performance parts and turnkey builds years after his passing, keeping his legend alive for future generations. But while Carroll was obviously a fan of fast cars and racing, he was also keen on off-roading, and even owned the very first Ford Bronco, which he used at his ranch in Terlingua, Texas, and experimented with many others over the years. To pay tribute to that lesser known hobby, the company that bears his name has now introduced something a bit different – the off-road focused Shelby Centennial Edition F-150.
To create this new offering – which joins the company’s more on-road street trucks like the Super Snake – Shelby starts with a four-wheel-drive Lariat SuperCrew equipped with the 5.0-liter Coyote V8. It then adds a host of exterior upgrades including a front bumper cover with air intakes and a Shelby grille, a ram-air hood, fender flares, side steps, a tonneau cover, 22-inch Shelby alloy wheels, and 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 tires.
The same goes for inside the cabin, which bears plenty of Shelby and Centennial Edition badging, plus a dash plaque, carbon fiber trim, and billet pedals. However, the real meat and potatoes lie in this truck’s mechanical bits, starting with the aforementioned V8. Customers can choose to stick with the stock Coyote and its 400 horsepower output, or they can opt for a Shelby supercharger system upgrade that adds a performance intake, an aluminum heat exchanger, billet throttle body, and high-flow injectors, which is good for a healthy 800 ponies.
To help the Coyote breathe and sound better, the Shelby Centennial Edition F-150 gets a special Borla exhaust with black tips, but there’s more to this package than power. In fact, the gussied-up pickup also gets a Shelby by Fox suspension system with the latter company’s 2.5 front and rear aluminum body reservoir shocks with internal bypass technology, adjustable dual speed controls, a BDS lift kit, rear traction bars, and beefier brake pads and rotors.
The result of all that is a pretty enticing hauler that’s capable of doing all sorts of things well, whether that be turning heads, beating sports cars in a straight line, or just hauling some mulch home on the weekend. However, only 100 will be built for the 2023 model year, and they aren’t cheap, with the base model starting out at $129,450, while the supercharged version costs $138,495. Regardless, it’s a special vehicle that’s also quite unique in the current Shelby lineup, and we have no doubt the company will find at least 100 people willing to pay for it.
