Original Chew

The used truck market is sizzling, and this hot 2017 Shelby F-150 Super Snake is making it boil. Almost too good to be true, the like-new Supercrew clocks in at a meager twenty-eight miles. The high-end rig may have loads of bite, but maybe it was too much to chew for the original, would-be buyer.

Special Cost

Recently listed on Bring a Trailer, bids for the Lightning Blue Snake did not reach the reserve. Capping at $78,000, the comment section fussed about the fact that it is only a two-wheel drive truck. One Ford pundit, and owner of a similar Shelby F-150, confirmed that it cost at least $96,000 to process the special order five years ago.

Package Change

Acquiring a Super Snake is all a matter of cash and availability. Currently, a new, supercharged, 775 horsepower, Shelby F-150 costs $98,690. For those on a budget, the 400-horsepower package rings in at $90,790. Based on the 2021 XLT or Lariat, those prices are subject to change as the 2022 F-150s are offered with go-fast enhancements.

Limited Models

The F-150 Super Snake is produced in partnership with Shelby American Inc. Founded by the legendary racer, Carroll Shelby, the company has a long history of modifying go-fast Fords. They state that the Super Snake truck is a muscle car at heart. Built in limited numbers, only a few hundred of the four and two-door models are released each year.

Oversized Throttle

Power for each Super Snake F-150 begins with a 5.0L Coyote motor. A Whipple Supercharger is added to make the high horsepower orders. The blower and intake manifold are then coated with Ford Racing Blue. All that grunt is backed by a performance air intake with a high flow filter, an oversized carbon fiber air intake, and a billet throttle body with high flow injectors.

Tuned Control

Spent gasses exit through a Shelby-tuned, Borla dual exhaust system with polished SST tips. The Super Snake is lowered as part of its muscle car-esque performance package. Suspension includes a tuned combination of Ridetech and Fox shocks and coil overs, along with upper control arms, rear sway and traction bars. Red, Shelby-branded brake caliper covers provide race-like stopping power.

Cobra Application

The Shelby package is applied to all areas of the F-150. Heated, power-adjustable front bucket seats are upholstered in black leather with perforated inserts and white stitching. Super Snake logos are embroidered on the front headrests. Later Super Snake models get a carbon fiber application, along with billet racing pedals. Distinct cobra emblems are also added to all Super Snakes.

Potency Doubt

Chrome wheels with Shelby-logo center caps are mounted with Toyo Proxes ST II tires. The unmistakable Ford racing stripes run from the nose to the rear bumper. Exterior badges leave no doubt as to the potency of this F-150. With horsepower and handling, Super Snakes definitely have bite. This next-to-no miles example may come around again for a buyer able to digest the whole cost.
