Breaking: Orders for 2017 Ford GT Start Today!
It’s here, it’s here! It’s like Christmas morning for millionaires around the globe, because Ford has officially started taking owner applications for the anxiously awaited supercar of the century—the 2017 Ford GT.
Will this be the supercar that finally takes Ferrari to the cleaners like it did 50 years ago at the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Only time will tell, but for now, all you need is a computer with an Internet connection, a Ford account (whatever that means), and a little under half-a-million dollars in the bank to put your name on the mother list. Even then, Ford may reject your application!
Ford promises that the GT concierge team will offer a unique and personalized order taking and customizing experience as special as the GT itself, though you have to live in one of the 19 countries chosen by ford to order and take delivery of your 2017 Ford GT. More importantly, you have until May 12, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. EDT to submit your owner application, as Ford is opening up all two years and 500 cars worth of production at once. There will be no future ordering past the May 12 deadline.
Along with the application website, Ford has launched the Ford GT online configurator, which as you’d expect, will let you create your lustful creation, download it, print it, or if you’ve got the cash—order it. Unfortunately, 30 minutes after the midnight press-release, the online configurator is quite glitchy and doesn’t work. Hopefully the application part of the site is working better, no?
