‘Mechanized Garage’ YouTuber Performs Inspiring F-700 Brake Service

Wheelchair-bound mechanic is anything but handicapped.

Most of our posts on this forum are about awesome Ford trucks. This one’s no exception, but more than that, this post is about an awesome human being. The host of the YouTube channel Mechanized Garage was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in 2015 that left him paralyzed from the sternum down, but that hasn’t stopped him from working hard.

Recently, one of our forum members, “F350 1990” shared a Mechanized Garage video demonstrating the incredible task of servicing of the disk brakes on a 1986 Ford F-700.

Such a task would be difficult enough in a fully outfitted workshop with a 2-post lift and no physical impairments. Instead of that situation, however, this incredible mechanic performs the job in his gravel driveway.

Mechanized Garage Lifting F-700

A difficult task

If you’ve ever operated a floor jack on a rough surface, you know how annoying it can be just to get it into the right position. Now, imagine having to get everything aligned correctly without being able to lie on the ground and adjust the position of the jack pad. Then picture lifting the truck while staying seated in a wheelchair, without being able to use your legs or abdominal muscles. Once the truck is off the ground, the real fun begins, like removing the wheel and actually doing the brake job.

It’s obviously an incredible challenge, with the full video exceeding an hour in duration. As the mechanic says, “Just for the record, this one side took about fivehours. Ouch!” Much of that, however, is filled with him explaining the intricacies of the various tasks. One thing is obvious – this man is definitely skilled and dedicated to his craft. This video shows how many different abilities most of us take for granted – things like lying down on a creeper are trivial for most mechanics, but this video shows us how difficult such a task can be for some people.

Message of Hope

While the main intention of the video is to demonstrate the replacement of F-700 brake pads, what it’s shown is is the importance of hard work. This man is a living example that you can accomplish anything with the right mindset and dedication. Even though the task is visibly difficult for him, he never stops or complains. As the mechanic says, “Do the best you can; if you want it, chase after it.” In today’s trying times, videos like these are good motivation to do the absolute best with what we’ve been given.

The Mechanized Garage YouTube channel is filled with videos of him performing various shop tasks. He also covers some interesting topics like hand controls, and many of the topics are things like “how a paraplegic washes his truck“. We’d definitely recommend checking his channel out!
