Who's that Whisperin' in the Trees?

1954 was a year of considerable change for Ford Motors. Their popular F-100 underwent quite a few engineering and style changes as pickups continued their race to contend with car sales in the United States. 1954 wasn't just the year Elvis began recording and Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio —it was also the year Ford Trucks would take center stage in the eyes of American automotive consumers.

You Can't Run Fast Enough

Perfect condition, expertly restored 1954 Ford F-100's have fetched as much as $170K at auctions, and this royal and tan beauty is a good example of why. This vehicle has undergone a photo-documented body-off restoration that has returned it to its original brilliance, with a variety of custom touches that make it draw crowds on the road and at shows.

Whipped-Up Jitterbug

A brown vinyl bench-seat and floor-shifter harken back to the original standard model design, although customers also had the option to purchase a "Driverized Cab" which included a bevy of features including armrests, a center dome light, cigarette lighter and sun visors. In fact, the 1954 Ford F-100's interior upgrades are among one of the first instances we have of automotive companies attempting to appeal to more suburban drivers.

You'd Best Get Away

1954 was also the year Ford engineers debuted the "Power King" V8 engine platform for their truck lineup, one that had been a staple of Ford cars since 1952. The new power plant replaced the old "Flathead" V8 that had been in all previous F-100 builds. This replaced the old flathead V8 with the overhead valve "Power King" V8 engine which had been in the car lineup for two years. This particular truck is powered by a 223 C.I. inline 6-cylinder, paired to a three-speed manual transmission.

Other spectacular features on this rebuild include shiny new chrome bumpers in the front and rear, body-colored wheels with trim rings and Ford center caps, and a mint condition bed, expertly fitted with shellacked oak inlays.

Stray Cat Frontin' Up

The front-hinged hood and vintage inspection sticker top off this brilliant ’54 Ford F-100 restoration. In just a few short years after this truck rolled off the assembly line, the third generation F-100 would debut with a completely different design. By 1957, Ford abandoned the classic rounded shape of the truck’s hood and passenger cab in favor of the “boxy” style that would dominate pickup truck design for the next three decades. But as the old saying goes, when life gives you curves, flaunt them!
