RECALL: Ford F-150 and Others Experience Seatbelt Problems
Did your Ford or Lincoln vehicle make the recall list? Check and take action.
If you happen to own an F-150, Escape, E-Series or a Lincoln MKC from 2014 or 2015, you should pay attention. Ford just issued a safety recall for its seatbelt system in several of these models. A recent finding claims the affected bolts that anchor your seatbelts to the body were not tempered properly. According to Ford, they are weak and prone to breaking.
The recall affects somewhere around 117,000 vehicles, all built between May and June of 2014. The exact years, models and build dates affected are as follows:
- 2014 Ford F-150 built at Dearborn Assembly Plant, May 9, 2014 to June 15, 2014 and at Kansas City Assembly Plant, May 10, 2014 to June 10, 2014
- 2014 Ford E-Series built at Ohio Assembly Plant, May 15, 2014 to June 24, 2014
- 2014-15 Ford Escape built at Louisville Assembly Plant, May 11, 2014 to June 18, 2014
- 2015 Lincoln MKC built at Louisville Assembly Plant, May 11, 2014 to June 18, 2014
Ford Motor Company became aware of the issue early, and they say no injuries or accidents have been reported. With such a short build date, there’s a possibility that only one batch of bolts was affected.
The Ford reference number for this recall is 17S17.
