Packed with a big Power Stroke diesel, 2019 F-150 Platinum is ‘super smooth,’ offers ‘luxury feel’ says Our Windsor.

There are plenty of ways to outfit your new F-150 once the bed and cab configuration is settled upon. If the basics are all you and your fleet manager need, then the base XL trim will get the job done. If a little more comfort and technology are in order, then there’s the XLT and Lariat to kick things up a notch.

If luxury is what you seek, though, then you can do no wrong than by opting for the Platinum trim. All of that chrome, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, heated rear seats, the Platinum is all you need to take your Ford experience to the next level. Windsor, Ontario publication Our Windsor recently reviewed such an F-150, this one equipped with a mighty Power Stroke to move the luxury rig down the highway.

“Tipping the scales at just under [$68,000], the F-150 Platinum replaces the need for a luxury SUV but still manages to retain the interior space, luxury cabin feel and the flexibility as a workhorse,” the publication says. “Added to the mix now is the super-efficient 3.0-litre Power Stroke diesel engine, making trips from job site to job site that more economical.”

Despite having to pay an additional $4,300 for the Power Stroke, the “Ford built for the boss” is a hit with the publication, beginning with the all-leather interior, whose fit and finish was as luxurious as expected for the F-150 Platinum trim. Visibility is excellent, and the various side steps and fold-away step with handle making loading and unloading the bed a breeze. The dash layout was found to be dated, but just like everything else, it’s “still functional with everything within easy reach.”

“When [starting] the engine, I was expecting the usual diesel grunt,” said Our Windsor, “but was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. [Even] when pulling away there was no increase in engine noise, and it really was hard to tell the difference from a gas engine.”

The turbo diesel’s 250 horses and 440 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic, delivered a smooth power flow to the corners. The overall feel on the highway impressed the publication, taking corners like a champ, parking in tight spaces like a Fiesta, and managing the bumps and road noise of the highway to deliver a quiet, luxurious ride for the F-150’s occupants.

“I couldn’t see myself spending this amount on a pickup truck that is to be used as a general dog’s body hauler on a construction site,” the publication said, “although it is still very capable of doing so. But I certainly could see this truck as the choice of a foreman that needs to haul stuff now and again without getting dirty while still feeling comfortable taking clients out to lunch in it.”
