Damaged 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Sells for $110K at Auction

EV pickup mania remains as crazy as ever after this damaged 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning sold for $43k over sticker.

EV pickup mania has boiled over recently, with a select wealthy few ponying up crazy amounts of money for the privilege to be one of the first people on earth to own one. With production creeping along at a snail’s pace, there just aren’t many Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV pickups out there to buy, making them rather valuable commodities at the moment. The same goes for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, it seems, as a damaged one just sold in an auction from ACV for a whopping $110,400 an alarming development discovered by a user at the F-150 Lightning Forum.

For those wondering, that’s roughly $43,000 more than the MSRP on this particular 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, which makes it an astounding figure. This is a Lariat-trimmed example, which starts out at around $67k – not the range-topping Platinum, which has a base price of just over $90k. If this truck was at least the latter, this sales price would have made slightly more sense, but instead, the premium paid by the winning bidder is truly mind-boggling.

However, that isn’t even the craziest part of this particular sale. That honor goes to the fact that this 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat is damaged, as we can see in this listing. The damage doesn’t seem to be anything too terrible, at least, and is listed as loose trim on the left front and on the center portion of the running boards. Regardless, a whopping 262 bids were placed for this EV pickup, as more than one person was clearly anxious to become one of the first F-150 Lightning owners on earth at any cost.

With demand certain to exceed supply for the foreseeable future, we’ll continue to see EV pickups like the Lightning sell for huge money. It’s the same phenomenon that holds true on the ICE side of things, so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise, though it also confirms that at least some deep-pocketed folks are excited about the future projects of trucks that don’t use gas to putter around town.
