Electrifying Showdown

Soon, the automotive market will be ripe with electric pickups to choose from, spawning an entirely new battle between both new and old foes. This will include the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV, which are two different types of products, and yet, also future competitors on a number of levels. Thus, we decided to take a closer look at how these two EV trucks match up against each other.

Styling

Both of these trucks are far more traditionally styled than some of the competition, but the Hummer takes a more rugged, off-road-focused approach. It looks futuristic while also paying homage to its predecessors, while the F-150 Lightning looks more like the modern-day ICE-powered Ford F-150, albeit with special touches like different LED lighting for the front and rear and unique front grille options.

Composition

The Hummer EV wears a steel body with plenty of armor up top and underneath, as well as removable Sky Roof panels. The Lightning, on the other hand, uses an aluminum body like its ICE counterparts, which helps it presumably weigh far less than the rumored 9,000+ pound GMC product.

Interior

The Hummer EV is positioned solely as a premium product, which means that its cabin is rather futuristic and well-appointed, with features including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Lightning is available in trims ranging from the work-truck-oriented Pro up to the luxurious Platinum and offers a 12-inch digital display and 12-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen as standard equipment, as well as a 15.5-inch touchscreen for higher trims.

Performance

The pricier Hummer EV will reportedly offer blazing performance with horsepower ranging from 625 for the EV2X to 1,000 for the range-topping Edition 1, which can do 0-60 in the 3-second range. Meanwhile, the Lightning can be had with either 426 horsepower in base form or 563 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque, with a best 0-60 time of around 4.5 seconds. Both trucks will reportedly get around 300 miles of range at best.

Hauling and Towing

The Lightning will offer a max payload of 2,000 pounds and a max towing rating of up to 10,000 pounds, with a 6.5-foot bed and 14.1 cubic feet of space available in the frunk.
