Coyote-Powered 1968 Ford F-100 Looks Amazing in Gulf Livery

Famous Gulf livery looks right at home on this vintage pickup, which features modern mechanicals.

Most automotive enthusiasts, regardless of their specific interests, are well aware of the iconic Gulf Oil livery. The much-beloved combination of light blue and orange adorned the flanks of many famous race cars over the years, and now, it’s been applied to this amazing 1968 Ford F-100 up for grabs at Bring a Trailer. While that may not make sense to some, we’ll just take it at face value, as the look suits this vintage pickup perfectly in our humble opinion.

The Gulf livery isn’t the only modification that’s been made to this 1968 Ford F-100 by a longshot, however. For starters, it’s been fitted with hood vents from a 1967 Mustang, while the roof rails were removed and the body was smoothed out. Other exterior highlights include a set of flush-mounted door handles, a custom fuel filler door located in the bed, aftermarket front and rear lighting, and a set of 20-inch wheels wrapped with Antares Majoris M5 tires measuring 255/40 in the front and 315/35 in the rear.

This vintage pickup rides on fortified underpinnings featuring a new front subframe, coilovers, a front sway bar, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes with a Wilwood master cylinder. Meanwhile, the driver is riding in total comfort thanks to a new two-tone brown interior with orange stitching, custom bucket seats and a custom center console, power windows and locks, and a Vintage Air HVAC system.

This killer-looking 1968 F-100 also features modern power underhood in the form of Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that is seemingly unmodified, but it puts out solid power in stock form, regardless. That newer mill is mated to a 4R70W four-speed automatic transmission and an 8.8-inch rear differential with 3.55 gears for solid acceleration and highway cruising.

This F-100 was built a few years ago, but it looks no less stunning today, with some pretty amazing detail everywhere one looks. Regardless, the real star of the show might just be that amazing color combination, which is one of the more famous pairings of hues on earth.
