2023 Ford Ranger Regular Cab Exists, but Won’t Be Sold in U.S.
Priced under the Maverick, the 2023 Ford Ranger regular cab is an enticing model we won’t be able to buy.
Here in the U.S., we love to think of our Blue Oval pickups as being distinctly American because of Ford’s rich history and origin in the U.S. But in reality, Ford has become a massive global company, and obviously builds and sells things in other parts of the world that we can’t get here in America. Case in point – the new, next-generation Ranger is already on sale in certain countries like Thailand, even if we won’t get it until 2023. And when it does launch, we won’t be able to buy a 2023 Ford Ranger regular cab model, either.
We know that such a thing exists, however, as the 2023 Ford Ranger regular cab is present on FoMoCo’s Thailand site, listed in two configurations – the Ranger Standard Cab XL 2.0L Turbo LR 5MT, which features a turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel powerplant and a five-speed manual transmission, and the Ranger Standard Cab XL 2.0L Turbo 4×4 6MT, which offers a bit more power, four-wheel-drive, and a six-speed manual transmission. We can almost hear the cries of U.S.-based truck fans from here.
These two regular cab Rangers are obviously geared toward those that want a work truck, as they’re bare-bones models with no chrome, a set of steel wheels, and cloth seats, though they do come with some impressive amenities including a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. Not the kind of stuff we traditionally find in work trucks, that’s for sure.
In terms of pricing, these regular cab Rangers vary from 589,000 THB ($16,218) to 697,000 THB ($19,191 USD), which is pretty reasonable by anyone’s standards. In fact, those prices undercut the super economical Maverick by a touch, even if it does come in standard SuperCrew configuration. Of course, not everyone needs or wants the extra cab space, and would be perfectly content with a bigger bed and a regular cab.
Regardless, while the regular cab Ranger looks like a long shot to ever reach our shores, we were once told that compact pickups were dead too, and we all know how wrong that prediction turned out to be.
