This 1969 Ford F-100 prerunner used to look a lot different, but now it’s one of the best looking rides in the deserts of Cabo.

Along with the meteoric rise of recreational off-roading in recent years, quite a few folks are getting serious about their passion and becoming amateur, and eventually, professional racers. Off-road racing events are booming in popularity, whether we’re talking about the iconic Baja 1000 or the newer King of the Hammers, and spectators show up in throes, camping out and just simply enjoying the action. Thus, we’re starting to see more and more vintage Blue Oval pickups converted for off-road racing purposes, and that includes this amazing 1969 Ford F-100 prerunner owned by Simon Flynn, or as he’s known online, Trophy Burro.

When he’s not posting amazing content centered around the off-road racing lifestyle, Flynn – who lives in Cabo San Lucas – is attending races like the Norra 1000, which is where he first laid eyes on Method Racing’s 1974 Ford F-100 race truck. He immediately fell in love with that truck, particularly the fact that it was equally capable of blasting across the Baja deserts and driving down the street during the week. After posting a “wanted” ad on Instagram, he was soon offered the chance to buy this 1969 Ford F-100 prerunner.

However, it wasn’t exactly what Flynn was looking for – he wanted an extra cab pickup, and this was was wearing 1980s bodywork at the time – but he wound up going for it, regardless. He then set out to make the truck precisely what he envisioned it to be – something he could have fun in around his hometown and also enter in events like Norra. Flynn started out by installing new seats, Fox shocks, TSCO/Fox bump stops on the front, an oil cooler for the engine oil, a 10″ third member, Method Racing wheels, and some beefy off-road rubber.

The biggest change came when Flynn had new 1969 bodywork made to fit on the truck, which was covered in aqua blue paint. Power comes from a 351 Windsor that’s been punched out to 383 cubic inches, sending roughly 500 horsepower to the wheels via a built T400 transmission and Dirt Tech differentials. The result is a pretty amazing, dual purpose truck – one that’s already spent a lot of time in the desert. But Flynn isn’t quite done with his build, as is usually the case, an plans on adding an EFI setup or perhaps even a larger Ford V8 in the future to give it a bit more punch. But for now, at least, it’s simply perfect in our eyes, whether it be blasting across the desert or hanging out downtown.
