1963 Ford Econoline ‘VanGo’ Is a True Masterpiece
The VanGo paint job was inspired by the work of Larry Watson and was designed by Gewertz. The rounded corners are an especially nice detail, as is the additional flake on the side of the van.
The custom seats are brilliant. When the van was lowered, the seating needed to be modified, and Gewertz took that opportunity to create custom wooden seating. The details in the interior are staggering and inspired. As Chase says “This is the kind of vehicle you can sit and look at for hours…especially if you notice all the details that have been changed from stock.”
Going around the back they take a moment to appreciate the taillights, which came from a 1950 Pontiac. Opening the doors, you really get to appreciate the Eames-inspired interior. Crafted and custom built, the carpentry is exceptional. The space, which looks like a very cool sunken living room, offers clever and stylish storage, and a brilliantly hidden gas tank. The tour continues around the side doors, and passenger side.
There’s so many interesting details to this build, and hearing it from Gewertz is a pleasure, he gives a great breakdown of what went into creating this truly one-of-a-kind van magnus opus.
