A Pro Street 1970 F-100 That Will Transport You Back to the 90’s
Remember when Pro Street was the thing, and everything under the sun was getting tubs and giant rear tires installed on it? Such was the 90’s, and every cover of every car magazine featured the latest giant tired build, some of which were simply posers that were hilariously underpowered.
Whether you’re a fan of look or not, it’s hard to deny that this 1970 F-100 doesn’t pull it off rather well. With wheel tubs in the bed and giant meats out back, it just looks mean. And the steel wheels are a rather welcome departure from the overused billet rollers we usually see on such a vehicle.
Also unlike most Pro Streeters, this truck has more than enough under the hood to turn those huge rear meats. The 460 has ported and polished Dove heads, a lumpy cam, a Weiand intake, and a Holley carb to spice things up a bit. A C6 3-speed backs up the big lump and sends power back to a 9 inch rear.
Pro Street cars are also notorious for having borderline tacky paint jobs, generally with outrageous graphics and color choices. This F-100 is again an outlier, sporting a tasteful Dark Cranberry paint job with a little bit of pinstriping thrown in for good measure.
So while the 90’s might conjure up memories of grunge rock, boy bands, baggy jeans, and tacky Pro Street cars, it wasn’t all bad. This F-100 is a perfect example of when a little constraint can create a vehicle that can stand the test of time.
