1. Breakdowns Become More and More Frequent

Everyday it’s something new. Despite your best efforts to keep your vehicle on the road, it wants nothing more than to be put out to pasture. There’s no point in keeping an old car that’s going to cost you a few thousand bucks every six months; nothing will justify keeping it compared to forking over the cash for a newer car.

2. The Interior Just Isn't What It Used to Be

The leather is cracked as well as peeling and the dashboard is aging so badly its AARP card is in the mail. You’ve got the seat covers on to try to block out the horrid state of the seats, but you can still feel the sad state they’re in through the cloth.

3. People Avoid Riding with You

This is typically the response you get when you tell people that they can take your car when going out. You keep telling yourself that they just can’t handle how unique your car is, but you know that they just want no part of being in your car.

4. It's Less Than 25 Years Old but Won't Pass Emissions

This makes the car not just costly but also bad for the environment. Just do yourself a favor and get rid of this pollution machine.

5. You Make It Rain at the Gas Pump

If you find yourself at the pump more and more often, then you need to check out what is happening internally. If you don’t have any leaks, then there is serious work that needs to be done to figure out why your fuel is burning up so fast.

6. Safety is Becoming a Luxury

Replacement parts are getting hard to find or may be priced higher to scarcity and has pushed you to a lot of shady repairs to keep you rolling in the meantime. If you arrive at your destination and immediately get out the car only to look up and thank the heavens, then it’s time to start checking out cars.

7. The Cost to Keep It Rolling is More Than the Car

Go ahead and check out Kelley Blue Book to see what your car is worth. Now stop crying and just get rid of the thing already!

8. When It Doesn't Fit Your Lifestyle Anymore

You’ve hit a point in your life where the car just doesn’t match with where you’re headed or about to head. Unfortunately, it usually means a parting of ways as the love has run its course and you must part.
