2011 Ford Super Duty: Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Tow Hitch

By -

Ford will offer a brand new factory fifth wheel prep package for the first time in the upcoming 2011 Super Duty truck line. Designed and engineered by Cequent Performance Products, Inc, a company under the wing of TriMas Corporation, a source of many quality products. The package is being produced under Cequent’s REESE brand, currently considered the number one producer in the world of heavy duty fifth wheel and gooseneck hitches for use on heavy duty trucks. A one of a kind frame-mounted cross bed towing system designed for pulling patented “drop in” gooseneck hitch ball or the patented fifth wheel hitch, this new fifth wheel package will allow users to pull up to 25,000 lbs (depending on the rating of the 2011 production Super Duty truck) using a package that works with pickup trucks constructed at Ford’s Kentucky manufacturing facility. The system will tie into the electronic controls of the vehicle allowing for a safety checklist to be implemented. Plans are for all 2011 production Super Duty Trucks to include the bed floor cut, the frame mount, and the wiring, while the Reese hitch that rests in the bed will have to be obtained at a Ford Dealer or through an aftermarket provider.

Would you go with an aftermarket or a factory installed hitch? Which aftermarket products have you tried and swear by? Is it a more attractive package because it is linked to the electronic monitoring system?
