This Awesome 1946 Ford Swap Meet Pickup Was Built in 100 Hours
Hagerty didn’t want just any project. Your average truck build was too boring. There needed to be more of a challenge. And after some brainstorming, a beautiful 1/2-ton Ford pickup from the ’40s took shape at the Hershey Swap Meet in Pennsylvania.
This was the goal for the ’46 barn find: “getting it running and driving within 100 hours by sourcing all of the parts from the fall Hershey Swap Meet, but also of making the nearly 750-mile drive home to Traverse City, Mich.”
Talk about a laborious task. The base shell was an old farm truck that hadn’t moved since 1962. In order to bring it back to life, Hagerty called upon four people: Parts Finder Davin Reckow, Social Media Analyst Matt Lewis, Staff Writer Tara Hurlin and Client Relations Manager Brad Phillips.
During the four-day span, the team had plenty of road blocks. The engine they used, a 1953 flathead V8 wasn’t even at the meet.
The team drove down to Virginia in the middle of the night to pick it up before continuing work at 7 a.m. the next day. That was tested and fired up on Day 3 before continuing the build.
