I finally got one!! 77 f250

So long story short, i had a chance to buy a 79 for cheap when i was 16 and i didn't. i promised myself if i ever had a good deal on another classic ford truck i'd buy it. well, last weekend a buddy of mine and i went and picked one up i found on craigslist. It's a 77 F250, 400m (not to hot on the engine but oh well) 4x4 4 speed dana 60 rear and 44 front. literally everything on this truck is solid except the bed and doors. new brakes all the way around. holley 600 is on top of a full roller valve train, long tube headers to true dual exhaust, and new battery. the front clip and cab is nice. the bottoms of the doors are rusting. the frame was painted 8 years ago and is just now starting to rust so i'm going to pressure wash it and POR 15 it. the previous owner wrecked the original bed and threw a garbage one on it that has rust holes wild turkeys could fly through. the tailgate is solid but is missing some of the hardware inside and it won't latch. he threw in another 400m engine that was rebuilt and never put in. also he threw in a holley 750DP and a 351m engine.

If i ever figure out how to post pics, i will!!

Congrats on the score! The 351 i s "M" modified, the 400 is not a modified. That double pumper may bee way more fuel than that stock engine will need, but if have plans to build a hot engine then it may be needed.
Post pictures of your purchase, and of your build

Yes pics of all please. Congrats. And the 400 can be built easily enough to put out as much power as you feel you need. They are great engines if built right.

Congrats on the new rig, sounds like a good deal. Get patch panels for the doors and weld r' up. Figure out what parts you need and flip sale the rest.

Catch those wild turkeys flying thru the bed, they are good eating. lol

Congrats and welcome to the "dentside" and FTE!

A 77 F250 4X4 could be a "high-boy" if built in early 77. They changed half way through the model year. Easiest way to find out is check to see if your transfer case is separated from the tranny by a short driveshaft (divorced xfer case).

I think they also had an in-cab fuel tank?

Yes. This is the easiest way to make that determination. If it's a 1977 F250 4WD with an in-cab gas tank, it's a highboy.

The serial number break was Y20,001, before that is a "high boy" (not a Ford term BTW) and from that S/N on is a low boy, but the easy way are checking for the signs, divorced transfer case, narrow frame, etc.

Mike congrats on the new to you truck. We definitely need pics of your truck. There are 2 ways to go about uploading them to the site. The first and easiest is to pay the subscription fee. And the second and cheapest way is to upload them to Photobucket then copy the url to a post on this site. And wha la we should be able to see the pics. And X2 as ubereal on the 400 and that carb. A 600cfm is plenty for a stock engine.

ok, It's not a highboy. at least originally, although it looks like one because the front axle was swapped at one time. i do have plans on building up the extra 400, went to harbor freight today to buy a engine stand so i can start. as of right now the truck runs great! at least it did, i noticed there was a small black zip tie holding open the choke lever on the passenger side of the carb. Now i don't believe this truck has a choke, i haven't found one. so i cut the zip tie, and now it idles like SUPER high around 2k. unless the choke flapper is open, but as soon as u hit the gas it shuts. so my question is this, Is it possible the previous owner put the wrong carb on? one that was made for manual choke? or is my truck missing the choke. as of now im going to zip tie it back so i can keep driving it! Thanks!
