Moving on...
Guys I want to say thank you for all the great advice that you guys give.
I had been keeping my eye out for a 2008-2010 F350 CC SB SRW with the V10 in either FX4 or Lariat trim for a few years, clean ones don't show up often this far north. Recently one became available and I made the jump on it today.
Tomorrow i'll be moving into a 2009 F350 FX4 CC SB with the V10. This truck will be used mainly to pull my travel trailer in the summer months. I kept going back and forth on putting the money into a gear swap + spring swap. But this deal was too good to pass up.
Soon i'll be putting my Excursion up for sale here in Alaska.
Thanks again everyone!

Well, you will still have a anyway! You are always welcome to stop back here to stay in touch.
I'd be very interest to hear your opinion of the towing performance differences between the two rigs, especially if the new F-350 has the same 3.73 gears as the EX. Let us know how the 3V V-10/5R110 does after you get a chance to do a good pull with it.

I predict he's going to love it. The 5R is a great transmission, very adaptable to conditions, and with ten cylinders up there power won't be short supply either. The suspension will be night and day too. Only downside, can't take the whole team with you. Depending on the size of the team!

First pull wont be until this spring time around May / June, but i'll be sure to follow up!

Contact 5 Star to make sure the tunes they wrote for your Excursion will work for the newer platform truck. I doubt the custom tunes written for the PCM in your Ex will also work for the computer in the newer truck, plus the engines are 2v vs 3v, so that might matter too.
