Ball joint replacement

Hey guys. I'm new to this section, normally over in the OBS section.
I'm doing the ball joints on my parent's 2002 Excursion. I got the driver's side done and the passenger side almost apart but the"knuckle?" (that the ball joints are pressed into) won't come off... The top is loose, I can spin the ball joint in place and it moves when I bang on it but the bottom won't budge. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours banging and prying on it but it still won't come off... I've also been soaking it with PB blaster and tried Freeze Off. Any other ideas or tips? Thanks for any help, I appreciate it!

Have you looked at this thread~ https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...over-tool.html

BTW, I had to double take when I saw the post, we have the same first name(spelled properly) and our last names start with the same letter!

Lots of heat, and lots of banging. That's what worked for me. Leave one of the nuts on because it'll pop loose (fall) when you least expect it.

I just did the ball joints on my 99 F250 and had the same exact problem. Eventually what I did was remove the snap ring from the lower ball joint then used a sledge to knock the knuckle down. The ball joint was so stuck in that it separated from the knuckle instead of letting go. With a clear shot it only took one or two hits to then knock the ball joint out. Good luck!

Thanks! That was a big help.
Wow, yeah I don't know why people insist on spelling it Zack... That's pretty cool.
