6.2 Liter Fuel Mileage Improvements

I recently purchased a 2013 F250 with the 6.2 gas engine. My mileage is less than desirable! Can anyone give me some ideas that may improve my mileage? It does have some 295's tires on it instead of the 275's. So I am sure that my mileage is not correct by the on board computer.

My 2015 F350 6.2..... It has been lifted now for about 2*months. But prior to my lift I did tests on the way to work and back. I drive about 16 miles each way, 99% freeway driving. Bottom line- slow lane at 60 to 61 mph gets me 16 mpg with the tires and lift. I also did this very often when it was stock. Cannot remember the exact MPG.... about 20 to 21 at 59 to 61 mph on the freeway. It does make a BIG difference to get into the slow lane and lift that foot up.Good Luck.

I am sure my foot does play a large part in it! But the truck is stock other than a 3" lift and the larger tires. Just wondering if a Cold Air Intake kit and or a Performance Tune would help a little. Any thoughts?

I seem to average 14 mpg, 70% highway. Speed has a lot to do with MPGs, out here in West Texas the speed limits are 75 or 80. If I cruise around 65 I can inch towards 16mpg.

Been thinking about a Five Star Tune, and may pull the trigger next time Mike has a sale. But, I'm not expecting any mileage improvement. These trucks are massive.

Not trying to be a smart *** here but, SD's are exactly built for mileage..

I'm seeing low teens in the northeast with a mix of highway and city....I tend to drive upper 60's low 70's on the highway running 285's and a mild lift..

Keeping idle time down and going easy on the skinny pedal is all I would suggest.

Bed cover does help. Maybe not enough to do it only for the mileage, but if you don't want to worry about things getting wet in the bed, it's worth while.
I added a soft cover that I can roll up when need be.

If you want mileage you bought the wrong engine. I installed 34" rubber and a shorter front valance to make my mileage as bad as possible...

Just FYI.....when I bought my 2011 F250 6.2 Lariat, used, it had an Airaid CAI on it. I thought it was obnoxious loud in the cabin when I was towing, so I ordered up the necessary parts to return it to stock. When I put the stock intake on it my mileage actually improved by 1 to 1.5 MPG!!!! Not saying that will happen every time but it is something to think about . I put a 5 star tune on it and still didn't really notice much difference in MPG when empty, but it did improve slightly (Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 MPG) while towing. But I did like the shift strategy of the transmission a lot better with the tune in it!

After re-reading all of your posts in this thread, I think I know what would fix the fuel mileage!!!! Lifts and big tires are mileage killers...there is no way around that!!

Keep the 6.2 stock height and drive as close to 60 whenever possible and you will get great MPG. That's not realistic IMHO... I have the KN aircleaner and I get ave 15.5 or slightly better on highway runs when empty. 14.4 or less on stop and go Mixed. Its the nature of the beast. Remember we are driving a truck that weighs over 6000 Lbs. and it's about as aerodynamic as a large Brick. DOH!

Well over 6000, mine weighs 7268 with a full tank and no one in it.

Get the 5star and don't look back. I got it in December and have been extremely happy with the product. Mine has 87 daily, 87 performance, 87 tow, 89 tow and 93 performance. The 87 performance tune really wakes the truck up and I still get decent gas mileage when I want. I'm currently running the 93 octane tune and its going to be difficult to go back. The truck is a beast and sounds amazing. Smokes my trucks that have a V10 in them. towed my boat(13k pounds) with the 87 tow and it did very very well. Looking forward to trying the 89 performance tow.
